during
several trips to bali podpod design
were captivated by the colors and shapes,
smells and sounds of this most exotic island,
by the sheer joy of life of its inhabitants and
the magic of its secular and spiritual worlds.
In
1993 podpod design rented a house in
the outskirts of ubud, the traditional arts and
craft centre in the interior of the island,
working out their project jungle fever,
designing a series of products poised at the
interface of two cultural worlds - europe and
southeast asia - and at two levels:
the spiritual one - european artists are inspired
by the cultural and natural beauty of bali;
and the technical one - balinese handcraft is
combined with austrian know-how.
podpod
design use materials just as wood,
bamboo, stone, rattan and coco nutshell as
well as particular striking patterns of balinese
art and place them in a new context. genuine
balinese components are manufactured by
local craftsmen in bali, shipped to austria
combined with parts by austrian enterprises.
